VMware Migration – Your Path Away From Broadcom
Broadcom's acquisition of VMware has fundamentally changed the licensing landscape: drastically increased costs, forced subscription bundles and discontinued products. We help companies break free from this dependency – with a well-planned migration to powerful open-source alternatives, operated in our data center in Frankfurt am Main.
Why many companies are now leaving VMware
Since Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware, many IT decision-makers face the same problems: the switch to subscription models has, in some cases, multiplied licensing costs, established standalone products have been forced into expensive bundles, and planning certainty has been lost. For many medium-sized and large enterprises, VMware is no longer economically viable.
The good news: there are mature, production-proven open-source alternatives that match VMware in terms of stability, performance and feature set – without licence lock-in and without dependence on a single vendor. We guide you along this path, from the first analysis to productive operation.
Our migration targets – the right alternative for every use case
Not every VMware environment should be migrated to the same platform. We analyse your requirements and recommend the technology that genuinely fits:
Proxmox VE – the direct VMware alternative
Proxmox VE is the most obvious choice for most vSphere environments. The KVM-based hypervisor offers live migration, high-availability clusters, snapshots, backup and central web management – functions that VMware administrators will find immediately familiar. Proxmox can be operated both as a single Proxmox Server and as a highly available Proxmox Cluster with Ceph storage.
Apache CloudStack – sovereign private cloud
For companies that need not just virtualization but a true private cloud platform with self-service, multi-tenancy and API control, Apache CloudStack is the right choice. CloudStack is the sovereign alternative to VMware vCloud Director and enables the operation of complex multi-tenant environments on a KVM basis.
KVM & Ceph – the open-source foundation
All our platforms are based on KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine), the established Linux standard for virtualization – the same technology used by major public cloud providers. For distributed, highly available storage we rely on Ceph, which enables fault-tolerant and freely scalable storage clusters without proprietary SAN hardware.
How your migration works
A VMware migration is a matter of trust – which is why we proceed in a structured way and without risk to your ongoing operations:
- Analysis & consulting – We assess your existing VMware environment: number of VMs, storage, network, dependencies and requirements. From this we derive an honest recommendation on which target platform makes sense for you.
- Migration concept – You receive a clear plan: target architecture, timeframe, approach and a transparent cost overview. On request including a cost-benefit comparison with your previous VMware licensing costs.
- Test migration – Before the productive switch, we migrate selected systems to a test environment so you can verify functionality and performance.
- Productive migration – The actual switchover is carried out in a planned manner with minimal downtime. Virtual machines are converted and brought into operation on the new platform.
- Operation & support – After the migration, we operate your environment in our data center in Frankfurt – with a dedicated contact person, or as a managed service, entirely according to your needs.
Your benefits at a glance
